MAXIMIZING
YOUR YOGA EXPERIENCE
Give yourself plenty of time to get to class
and acclimate. Its best to arrive 10 or 15 minutes early
and with an empty stomach. If you do arrive a few minutes late, take
a breath, unravel your mat outside and enter as slowly and quietly as
you can. Consider being prompt as a part of your practice
Be kind and loving to yourself. Accept
where you are and know that each day on the mat is different. Rest if
you want or need to. Let yourself surrender enough to have an experience.
Remember: no matter where or when we begin yoga, it is perfect
Focus on what the teacher is saying and doing.
Take verbal or hands-on corrections in the spirit of friendly guidance
Abandon the competitive mindset. Yoga
is non-competitive. Not simply a "work out," it is a practice
that makes the body stronger, more flexible and healthier. Its aim is
to calm the mind, open the heart and accelerate our spiritual evolution.
So dont compare yourself to others. Listen to your body and do
what you can without straining or injuring yourself
Let the teacher know about injuries or conditions
that might affect your practice. If you are injured or tired, skip poses
you cant or shouldnt do or try a modified version
Never bring a cell phone or pager into the
studio. Put the events of the day aside and create a little
yoga oasis for yourself
Do not wear perfume. You may love
your perfume or oil, but others wont and people with allergies
can suffer from it. If possible, bathe prior to class
Acquire and use your own yoga mat.
We provide house mats as a convenience but it is more hygienic
to use your own
